I have been recently very impressed with some of the new instruments and artists that are creating and playing what is known as Touch Guitar, Touch Style, or Tapping Guitar music.

Let me explain.

Since the dawn of electric guitar in the 1940s, every player has noticed that you can sound notes without strumming or picking the strings with the right hand. These notes come by simply touching or tapping the strings with the left hand. This is, of course, both a blessing and a curse, usually a curse of many unwanted notes.

But along the way, some players have adopted this phenomenon to their benefit. Even to the point of using BOTH hands to tap separate parts on different strings at the same time.

So along comes the dedicated tapping guitar, with more strings and positioned more vertically to allow for better playing by both hands.

Today, instruments like

exist to help to overcome the limitations of tapping on guitar or bass tapping.
